INTIMACY CHOREOGRAPHER:
INTIMACY DIRECTOR + INTIMACY COORDINATOR

WHAT CAN AN ID/IC DO FOR YOU?

     - If your scenes involve nudity, sexual situations or any other types of intimacy, an ID or IC will facilitate the whole process:
     - Making sure that requirements are clearly communicated at the auditions, including nudity riders
     - Reading the script, asking the director for his/her vision of the scene, and discussing options for staging
     - Working with the actor(s) to discuss their boundaries, and to clearly and safely choreograph the scenes for the director's approval
     - Making sure that rehearsals and sets are closed and union rules are followed
     - Caring for actors' well-being before, during and after "cut"

ALLISON'S TRAINING

- Allison has studied in three countries with the top 3 (well, the only 3) companies that provide this type of training.
- She studied in Baltimore, MD, with Theatrical Intimacy Educators (TIE)
- She studied in Toronto, Canada and Raleigh, NC, with Intimacy Directors International (IDI)
- She studied in London, England with Ita O'Brien - participating in Ita's first ever advanced level, 8 day workshop
- Allison is certified in Mental Health First Aid.

Allison recently Intimacy Directed a production of Stupid Fucking Bird, directed by Brendan Hughes. Here is part of an unsolicited email Brendan wrote to describe his first day working with Allison:

"We engaged Allison Bibicoff as Intimacy Director last night and the results are pretty
incredible. As she prepared the actors for these scenes I kept wondering 'where has this been all my career?' It's a fantastic way to do this and a lot of important thinking has been done by Intimacy Directors about making the rehearsal of these moments feel totally safe for the actors. Our evening began with Allison having a meeting with the three actors in question, along with myself and Elliot, in order to lay out the groundwork for this process. Then she met with each of the actors individually...Then she and I met ...Then we got started on the Scene with Nina and Trig (scene 19, "Undone"). She led us through quite a bit of preliminary exercise, getting comfortable with contact, etc... it was very fruitful and we are in very good hands."

Allison's experiences as an actress, dancer, director, and choreographer in theatre, film in television augment her training to make her exceptionally qualified to ID or IC your production. As an actor, she has performed intimate scenes and scenes that involved nudity, so she has first-hand knowledge of a performer's concerns. She also keenly understands the demands of tight time restraints.

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN INTIMACY DIRECTOR AND AN INTIMACY COORDINATOR?

The term Intimacy Director generally is used in live theatre, and Intimacy Coordinator is used in film and television.
As long as your ID or IC knows the protocol for how your rehearsals/shoots are run, and how to adjust accordingly, the actual work done is essentially the same - regardless of the medium.

" IDs are not the sex police... Establishing boundaries frees up space in the actor’s head to focus on the scene. If they’re not spending energy thinking about what their partner might accidentally do, they can use that energy to focus on the acting...This is not about restricting people, but rather about freeing them."
